The National Liberal Party (NLP) has taken its grassroots recruitment campaign to Makueni County, following a successful mobilization effort in neighboring Kitui County. The party, under the leadership of Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli, is gearing up to establish itself as a formidable political force in the Ukambani region ahead of the 2027 general election.
Dr. Muli, who is widely expected to vie for a political seat in 2027, has positioned the party as a fresh alternative to the dominant Wiper Democratic Movement. Speaking during the launch of the Makueni drive, he emphasized the party’s commitment to youth empowerment, economic transformation, and political inclusivity.
Speaking in Kibwezi town in Makueni county, Muli Said “We are here to give the people of Ukambani a new voice — one that reflects their aspirations and is not tied to outdated political traditions,”
The party’s growing presence in the region signals a potential shift in the political landscape, with NLP seeking to loosen Wiper’s grip and provide voters with new leadership options.
Local observers note that the success of the registration campaign in Kitui has energized party supporters and could signal changing tides in the region’s politics. The NLP is expected to continue its recruitment drive across other counties in the lower eastern region in the coming weeks.
