The Residents of Ilika village in Yatta/Kwavonza ward are celebrating improved access to clean water following the successful handover of the Kyainya Borehole project. The project, spearheaded by Hon. Mark Nding’o, MCA for Yatta/Kwavonza, was officially handed over to the community after major upgrades including solarization and the establishment of a water kiosk.
The newly equipped borehole is set to serve both the local community and Kyainya Primary School, ensuring reliable access to water for domestic and educational purposes. The project’s solarization component is expected to make water supply more sustainable and cost-effective.
Present during the handover ceremony were Samuel Wambua, Sub-County Administrator (KRC SCA), Alice Kimeu-Kioko, the YKV Ward Administrator, Celestine Kasimu, the Ilika Village Administrator, Chief Alex Ngumbi of Ilika Location, KRC sub-county water officers, and several members of the Kyainya community.
Hon. Mark Nding’o lauded the collaboration between community leaders and the county government, emphasizing that the project reflects his commitment to improving essential services in Yatta/Kwavonza ward.
The community expressed gratitude for the development, highlighting that access to clean water will greatly enhance their quality of life, health, and agricultural activities.
This project marks another milestone in the county government’s ongoing efforts to provide sustainable water solutions to rural communities across Kitui.
