A team from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock headquarters, led by Director for Agriculture Mr. Francis Kitoo, joined sub-county agricultural officers in Kitui East for a field visit to farmers in Zombe and Mutitu wards.

The objective of the visit was to engage with farmers, learn about their practices, and provide guidance on agriculture, livestock management, and the adoption of climate-smart farming techniques. In Mutitu Ward, the team visited Mr. Benedict Ngala Nzuku, a mixed farmer managing a 7-acre farm with various fruit trees, field crops, and livestock. He earned over Kshs 100,000 from mango sales last season and uses a solar-powered system to irrigate his farm from a nearby stream.

The second farmer was Eng. Musyoka Kivala from Itiko/Kyaimu village a meat goat farmer. In Zombe Ward, the officers met Ms. Esther Musali, a smallholder farmer engaged in both subsistence and fruit farming. She grows mango trees of various varieties and reported a successful harvest last season.
