Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen today led the Lower Eastern leg of the Jukwaa la Usalama tour at Kitui High School, where he was warmly received by Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, Members of Parliament, and County leaders.
Among the dignitaries present was Yatta Kwa Vonza MCA Hon. Mark Ndingo, accompanied by several Members of the Kitui County Assembly, who joined Governor Malombe in welcoming the Interior CS to Kitui Town. MPs Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East) and Dr. Rachael Nyamai (Kitui South) were also in attendance, alongside Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli, senior county officials, and other leaders.
The event, part of a national public engagement campaign on security and governance, highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between the National Government and counties in enhancing local security and service delivery.
CS Murkomen also announced that the government is targeting one million youth nationwide in a renewed ID card registration drive, which is benefiting from the elimination of the Ksh.300 application fee. The campaign, which features mobile registration units, is also expected to be more inclusive following the abolishment of vetting committees for border communities—a move aimed at simplifying and accelerating the process.
Governor Malombe lauded the initiative, stating that such government programs would greatly enhance civic inclusion and empower young people in Kitui and beyond.
The Kitui event marks a key stop in the Jukwaa la Usalama tour, which continues to rally community support and governmental synergy for a safer and more inclusive Kenya.
