The County Government of Kitui, under the leadership of H.E. Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, has today announced a strategic partnership with Spot Africa Child Talent (SACT), a Uganda-based NGO, to establish a state-of-the-art sports complex in Kitui County.
During a high-level courtesy call at the Governor’s office, SACT officials unveiled plans for a 14-acre integrated sports facility that will feature a main pitch, swimming pool, training pitch, two basketball courts, two volleyball courts, two lawn tennis courts, and a fully equipped indoor training arena with administrative offices.
The ambitious project is backed by a two-year joint grant worth £6.2 million (approximately KSh 1 billion) from Funding For Sports (UK) and GR. Consultancy. The initiative aims to nurture and empower vulnerable children and youth with diverse sporting talents across Kitui County and the broader East African region.
“We are always ready to welcome partnerships that improve the lives of our people,” said Governor Malombe. “This facility will not only unlock the potential of our talented youth but also generate employment opportunities for our communities.”
Kitui County Executive Committee Member for Sports, Ms. Phoebe Mutemi, hailed the project as transformative: “This is truly a game changer in our lifetime. It will redefine the sports landscape in Kitui.”
SACT Kenya Director, Mr. Jared Nyauma, assured the Governor of the project’s swift execution, committing to a two-year completion timeline upon finalization of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and land allocation.
Mr. Nyauma was joined by SACT CEO Mr. Walter Ateya, Co-director Mr. Henry Alisa, and Sports Enthusiast Ms. Angeline Elija. Senior Kitui County officials in attendance included Chief Officers Evans Mutemi, Nason Kang’alya, Esther Mutemi, and CECMs Fredrick Kimanga, Eng. Mulwa Itiko, John Mwendandu, and Phoebe Mutemi.
This landmark partnership marks a significant step in delivering Governor Malombe’s development promise of uplifting youth and creating inclusive opportunities through sports and talent development.
