In a strong show of commitment to youth empowerment and education, Yatta Kwa Vonza Member of County Assembly (MCA), Hon. Mark Nding’o, today held a consultative meeting with student leaders from South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) at Kwavonza.
The meeting centered on the welfare of students at the university, with discussions touching on challenges faced by learners and ways of improving their living and learning conditions. Hon. Nding’o praised the student leadership for their proactive role in addressing issues affecting their peers.
“The youth are the hope of our future,” he said. “The power of education and leadership in them is a common wealth for the entire world. We must support and walk with them.”
In a major announcement, Hon. Nding’o revealed that the national government had approved the construction of a 15-storey hostel block at SEKU, a game-changing development aimed at solving accommodation challenges.
“I informed the student leaders that we have secured from the National Government a 2,500-bed capacity hostel for the university to ease the accommodation crisis. The 15-storey building, which will be constructed by the Ministry of Lands and Housing at a cost of Ksh 1.7 billion, will be the tallest building in Kwavonza,” he announced.
The student leaders welcomed the news with optimism, lauding the MCA’s efforts to champion youth welfare and development in the region. The project is expected to improve student life and boost the image of SEKU and Kwavonza as a growing academic hub.
Hon. Nding’o reaffirmed his commitment to continue working closely with SEKU leadership and the student community to ensure development and progress are felt at the grassroots.
