The United Democratic Alliance (UDAparty will conduct its grassroots elections this Friday, April 11, across all polling stations in Kitui County, in a move aimed at strengthening its presence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Hon. Nimrod Mbai, the Member of Parliament for Kitui East and a contender for the UDA County Chairmanship, confirmed that election materials have already arrived from the party’s national headquarters and are securely in Kitui, ready for distribution.
Addressing the press, Mbai welcomed the grassroots polls as a significant milestone in building a strong and organized political outfit within the county. He urged UDA delegates to turn out in large numbers to participate in what he described as a “people-driven” electoral process.
“For over three decades, Kitui has been under leadership that has failed to bring tangible development. This is the moment for a fresh political beginning,” said Mbai. “I urge all UDA members to come out in large numbers on Friday and elect leaders who truly represent their aspirations.”
Mbai also emphasized that the exercise will be democratic, dismissing any possibility of “boardroom deals.” He said the decision-making power will rest solely with the delegates.
The elections will be conducted electronically, and only duly registered UDA members will be eligible to vote.
The Kitui County elections are part of a broader national grassroots mobilization strategy by UDA, as the ruling party seeks to solidify its support in regions previously considered opposition strongholds. The outcome is expected to reflect the party’s traction in Kitui ahead of the 2027 polls.
